Service Learning

“Give the pupils something to do, not something to learn; and the doing is of such a nature as to demand thinking; learning naturally results.”
― John Dewey

Service Learning allows students to become conscientious and engaged while empowering them to make a positive difference in their community.

Part of our curriculum discusses animal shelters and pet adoption. As a service learning project, the children decorated bandanas with special phrases and pictures and donated them to New Haven Animal Shelter. They hope that the bandanas will draw attention to the dogs waiting for their forever home at adoption events.

Officer Manganiello from New Haven Animal Shelter was kind enough to speak to the children and answer their questions.

One of the children's bandanas was worn by the 'Pet of the Week' featured on WTNH news.
